I am an artist of the plains and have lived and worked in rural northwest Iowa for more than 35 years. This region, known as Siouxland, is defined by expansive skies, working farmland, and remnants of native prairie, and sits along the edge of the historic Western Frontier. The Great Plains—rich in history and natural beauty—are the primary inspiration for my vibrant, textured watercolor paintings, through which I explore the evolving relationships between land, people, and prairie ecosystems.
My work has received national and regional recognition and has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the Midwest. I have participated in artist residencies with the National Park Service at Homestead National Historical Park in Nebraska and Badlands National Park in South Dakota. Created during my Nebraska residency, my Homestead Series reflects on the homesteading experience and toured the Midwest in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the Homestead Act. This body of work is now part of the park’s permanent collection. I have also gained national recognition as the cover artist for the Pioneer Girl series celebrating the legacy of Laura Ingalls Wilder.
I work primarily in transparent watercolor, often layered with charcoal to create distinctive texture and depth. These expressive works reflect my deep connection to place and an ongoing exploration of the interconnectedness of land, ecology, and human presence in America’s heartland.
My artwork is available through my website and select regional galleries. I welcome commissions and am available for artist talks, demonstrations, and master classes. More information is available on my website.
