Starting at the young age, I began winning drawing contests and earning art awards. Named after my father Martin, I grew up playing sketching games with him where we challenged each other to create images from a single curve or twirl. That simple game became foundational to my creative process and is something I now pass on to family and students.

I spend most of my time working on self-taught art projects and commissioned pieces. MAD artwork blends abstract realism with deep, rich color and layered texture. I’m especially drawn to painting large animals, inspired by their strength, presence, and sheer magnificence. Most recently, I’ve fallen in love with old ships and boats. I love the look of them sitting on the edge of the water hoping for the tide.  

After many years of oil painting, acrylics have become my preferred medium. Giving back is a core part of my work. I donate artwork to charities each year, allowing my art to have purpose and value within the community. Today, the images I paint feel like a slightly blurred vision or reality-infused with fun, emotion, and a touch or madness. 

I am married and a proud mother of three very talented daughters who also share a love for art. Together, we’ve explored many creative adventures, including selling jewelry, face painting, and artwork at the downtown market for over ten years. I current have a private studio and gallery in my Cedar Rapids home and hope to continue spreading joy through my art for many years to come.
