Phil Roeder is a documentary photographer whose work explores the relationships between people, place, and time. Drawn to the overlooked and the everyday, his photographs often reflect a quiet attention to how history lingers in contemporary landscapes.

Following a career in communications and public affairs, Phil came to photography later in life – an evolution that continues to shape his perspective behind the camera. His work has appeared in a variety of national and international publications and has been featured in books and exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe. In 2024, a photograph he made of the Iowa State Fair was featured on a U.S. postage stamp.

Phil lives in Des Moines, Iowa, where he served as director of communications for the city’s public school system. He holds a BFA in photography from Arizona State University and an MA in photography from Falmouth University. Phil is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society.
