The Ankeny Uptown Association and The Ankeny Leadership Institue is seeking to commission a vibrant outdoor 10×12 ft mural to be installed on the building located in Uptown.

Mural Site Details

The painted brick building is approximately 10 ft. by 12 ft. (the actual wall is closer to 12 ft. by 20 ft.)  However, the actual mural size could adjust to fit budget constraints. The theme for the installation is “The Lights are Brighter in Uptown.” which can incorporate a floral/garden theme or a nostalgic nod to Uptown in years past.

Project Goals

This mural project will continue to enhance the unique and quaint aspect of Ankeny Uptown. Bringing in another showcase of art to existing murals will further conclude the district as a destination. 

The Ankeny Uptown Association is very open to considering project designs incorporating community involvement, but this is not required. Proposals recommending community involvement should clearly describe the benefits and methods for involvement. 

Budget

The budget is $4,500 to $7,000 total, which shall constitute full compensation for all services, goods, expenses, and materials to be performed and furnished in the mural’s design, creation, and installation.

How to Apply

Completed proposals should be emailed to jamielynsilver@gmail.com by March 15, 2026. 

1. Artists must submit at least one and no more than three conceptual renderings of proposed artwork.
2. Artists must also submit at least two and no more than six links to examples of their completed work that depict the artistic style that they intend to use for the project.
3. Artists should include a one-page letter describing their experience with large scale murals and why this project interests them.
