About the Project: This artwork is partially funded by public donations given in honor of the long-running College Hill Arts Festival. The College Hill Arts Festival was founded by Hugh Pettersen, after which which the plaza is named, in 1979. It began with 35 artists on the sidewalks of the College Hill business district and eventually grew to 75 artists participating in the event and was recognized as a top ranked national arts festival. From its inception through 2021 the Festival was an integral part of the fabric of the College Hill business district.
This artwork is intended to celebrate the College Hill Artist Festival and reflect a sense of community, stewardship and local pride.
