Dear Artist,

The City of Urbandale Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) / Call to Artists for a commissioned public artwork to be located at Barrett Boesen Park and Natural Playscape in Urbandale, Iowa.

This project seeks a professional artist or artist team to design and create a permanent, site-specific artwork located near the entrance of the park. The artwork will serve as a welcoming visual landmark that reflects the park’s connection to nature, play, and community. While highly visible, the artwork is not intended to be interactive and should be designed with durability, safety, and long-term maintenance in mind.

Artists with experience in public art, outdoor installations, or similar commissioned work are encouraged to apply. The RFQ outlines project goals, eligibility requirements, selection criteria, budget, and submission guidelines.

Key details include:

  • Project Location: Barrett Boesen Park and Natural Playscape, Urbandale, Iowa
  • Artwork Type: Permanent, non-interactive public art installation
  • Submission Type: RFQ (qualifications-based selection)
  • Deadline: February 11, 2026

The full RFQ and submission instructions can be found on the City of Urbandale website at www.urbandale.org/artRFQ

We appreciate you sharing this opportunity with other artists or artist teams who may be interested. Thank you for your continued support of public art and creative placemaking.
