Alejandra Alvarez (b. 1987) is an Artist (BFA, 2013), Designer (BA Industrial Design, 2015 and Interior Design, 2008) and Artisan (Silversmith and Woodworker 2019) from Colombia currently based in Iowa City. This multidisciplinary background provides a holistic approach where matter, form, text and context are explored as part of her creative process. She has a curious hands-on personality, which can be perceived both in person and through her artwork. Each piece she creates seeks to spark the curiosity of the beholder, leading from contemplation to conversation.
Her multidisciplinary creations combine different mediums and techniques. Among her work you’ll find Printmaking, Metalsmithing (brass and silver), handbound notebooks, Drawings and Paintings (analog and digital). Other larger format pieces she’s worked on are Scenery design and props for theatre plays, chalk art, murals and sculpted pieces.
