As an artist, I excel most when working with other artists and creatives. Here is a brief listing of my primary areas of expertise:
- exhibition + installation documentation
- individual documentation of artworks
- documentation of performance art
- creative portraits
- music photography
- event photography
My clients include the Des Moines Art Center, Group Creative, Interfaith Alliance of Iowa, the Iowa Arts Council, Iowa Public Radio, the Iowa State Historical Society, Little Village Magazine, and Planned Parenthood of the Heartland.
Personal Work // Artist Statement
I use image-making to confront my fear of vulnerability while exploring intimacy, ways of seeing, and the expansive possibilities of creating photo-based art. The performative action necessary to create an image is often a part of the content of my work. My self portraiture began as an exploration of the tangle of historical tropes, cultural expectations, and personal control that comes with representing the queer, female body. I have since expanded this inquiry into a rediscovery of the materiality of the photographic print.
For my most-recent work, I print large-format photographs of myself, tear them, and rephotograph myself with the fragments. I am curious as to how the process of collage disrupts the gaze and whether or not this disruption influences how viewers interpret my (literal) body and body of work.
