Artist Statement

What: I am a self-taught artist utilizing acrylic, watercolor, and ink mediums for my paintings.

Why: My work is created in a way that will catch the observers attention and draw them in with layers of fine details. There is so much beauty before us daily that we don’t take the time to really appreciate what already surrounds us. We live in an ultra-fast-paced world of instant gratification. I want people to be inspired to slow down and appreciate the details around us by realizing a new way to take in the subject matter. I look for new angles or perspectives that people would not normally think of as a way to capture the subject matter. I want others to be inspired to put the phone down and live wholistically in the moment taking in the things that we may take for granted on a daily basis.

How: I strive to find interesting ways to use light and perspectives that people would not normally see the subject matter in those ways. This strategy is meant to leave the observer looking for the details and exploring and appreciating the depth of the layers.

About the Artist:

Brooke Peterson

Visual Artist, City Clerk/Administrator

I am a self-taught artist utilizing acrylic, watercolor, and ink mediums for my paintings. I work full time as a small-town City Clerk/Administrator and took to painting much more frequently in my free time when the global pandemic hit. I used my art as a way to shut out the panic and chaos, that was the world around us for the time being, and focused my energy on manipulating paint as a means of something I could control. I took a chance, overcame the vulnerability, and started to show my work through my personal social media. The rest is history. I’ve since started my own side business and have had a consistent list of commission requests for the last couple of years. I’ve continued to push my abilities and comfort level to reach new boundaries I never thought I could do. I’ve submitted artwork to county and state fairs, started teaching painting classes, participated in a live art competition, plein air painted at the state fair, and have participated in many art festivals in the last few years. My favorite part of this entire journey thus far is connecting with other creative individuals and being trusted to make very sentimental commission works for clients. My daughter is also a huge motivator for me as she shares the same passion, so I’ve been able to share this journey with her and empower her to also get her art out into the world!

Use this section to get the parent/child taxonomies for a single post being viewed

The above pulls in each of the parents within the artist-discipline taxonomy , which is good, if I want to display them alone without their children.
Terms: Arts Instruction/Lessons
Terms: Education
Terms: Mixed Media
Terms: Painting
Terms: Visual
Terms: Workshops / Demonstrations / Master Class

I need to probably display these like this:

Dance: Ballroom, General, Hip Hop, Jazz.

Design: General, Graphic

Will need to figure out how to return the sub categories (artist-discipline) for each parent individually and then loop through all parents assigned to the CPT (artist) being viewed.

In this section I was able to successfully pull all sub categories that belongs to the 2 parents selected. This could be good if I was trying to show all possible choices under that parent, but what I really need is to pull just the selected ones back.
