Hi. I’m Dale. I am an Alcohol Ink artist.

In January 2019 at age 78, knowing I had talent, being in good health, and believing I could live another 20 plus years I decided to become an artist. In 20 years a person can get good at pretty much anything. Where to begin?? With pencil and a prompt book for drawing, which I used til summer when I began yearning for color. Surprise!!! The local library was, at that providential moment, hosting an introductory class in painting with alcohol ink. I was HOOKED. And have been developing my skills and sharing them through my art and by teaching my own introductory classes ever since.

In October 2022 I opened a small gallery located in The Old Print Shop Mini Mall in Humeston IA. I have been privileged to display a 30 plus piece private exhibit in Corydon State Bank (Corydon), Lakeside Casino (Osceola), and Westminster Presbyterian Church (Des Moines). I have had pieces juried into the Des Moines Women’s Club Art Show, Pearson Lakes Art Center (Arnold’s Park) winter show, and Art Domestique (Washington) “Small Works” fall art show. My facebook site http://facebook.com/creativelydale/photos has pictures of a lot of my newer work, some sold, some still for sale. Classes can be scheduled by messaging me through that site. Throughout the 2023 season I participated in artist shows/vendor fairs across the state.

I am a member of Iowa Artists, North River Arts Council (Warren County), Alcohol Ink Art Society.

Me? I was born and raised in Pittsburgh PA, oldest of the six of us kids. I graduated from Tarkio College and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and served as a Presbyterian pastor for 50 years in PA, NE, NY, MO, KS, IA, with chaplaincies in Sequoia National Park and Pennsylvania Army National Guard. My first wife, Marcia Witherspoon, who blessed our marriage with 3 wonderful children, died in 1987 from breast cancer. A year later I met and married Linda Daniel, also a Presbyterian pastor.  So now I have 5 wonderful children. God is good. We’ve been married for 35 years now and have lived in what has become our forever home in Lucas for 18 years.

I am an artist. I am a volunteer. I am a fan of the NFL, especially the Steelers, Chiefs, Bills and 49ers. Linda and I are “timeshare travelers” spending several weeks a year on the road … a) visiting our children in MD, TX, NV, MO and b) enjoying condo living all across the country. Back in 2004, my commitment to my own health and the health of the planet led me to Shaklee, a premier Wellness company, for whom I remain an enthusiastic Ambassador (Distributor). I love to push mow my own half acre yard and scoop what snow falls on my drive and walk.

Use this section to get the parent/child taxonomies for a single post being viewed

The above pulls in each of the parents within the artist-discipline taxonomy , which is good, if I want to display them alone without their children.
Terms: Mixed Media
Terms: Painting
Terms: Visual

I need to probably display these like this:

Dance: Ballroom, General, Hip Hop, Jazz.

Design: General, Graphic

Will need to figure out how to return the sub categories (artist-discipline) for each parent individually and then loop through all parents assigned to the CPT (artist) being viewed.

In this section I was able to successfully pull all sub categories that belongs to the 2 parents selected. This could be good if I was trying to show all possible choices under that parent, but what I really need is to pull just the selected ones back.
