Deanna Skokan has always loved to paint, but until 2014 it was only on the walls of her house. As her children left for college, she decided to move her paintbrush from drywall to canvas. After sharing her first painting with family and friends, she was encouraged to continue along this path. Little did she know God had given her a special talent as an artist.
Since 2016 Deanna has exhibited her artworks at many churches, libraries, galleries and museums in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Arizona. Her work currently can be found at the Geisler-Penquite Gift Shop at The Centre for Arts and Artists in Newton, Iowa; Lake Fine Art Academy and Galleria in Lake Ozark, Missouri; and at Kavanaugh Art Gallery in West Des Moines, Iowa. In 2020 and 2021 Deanna was named one of Dickinson Law Firm’s Artists of the Year. Today she continues entering many regional, national and international juried events, including several plein air events in the Midwest, Florida and Arizona. Many of her paintings have been shown over several years at the Iowa State Fair and the Des Moines Women’s Club Art Exhibits. Her art has been collected by many art lovers all over the US and also in Togo, Africa. To follow her Art, go to https://deannaskokan.com/follow.
Deanna is an active member of Iowa Artists and was the Membership Chair from 2019-2023. She is also a member of NOAPS (National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society), Central Iowa Plein Air Painters, Brush and Palette (MO), Sonoran Arts League (AZ) and Naples Plein Air Painters (FL).
Her goal is to bring the beauty of the world God created to the eyes of others. Deanna enjoys exploring all over the United States with both her camera and her paints. She enjoys challenges that push her outside of her comfort zone in order to be creative and use the talents God has given her.
Deanna and her retired husband Mike have two grown daughters and split their time between their homes in Missouri, Florida, Arizona, and Waukee, Iowa. The variety of these geographical locations inspires many interesting subjects to paint, although some of her favorite places include the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, Barefoot Beach and Naples City Dock in Florida, and the Sonoran Desert and Superstition Mountains in Arizona. She has been commissioned to paint boats, lake homes and wildlife along with several points of interest at the Lake of the Ozarks. If interested in commissioning a piece of art, please contact Deanna at fineart@deannaskokan.com.
Aside from being an artist, Deanna enjoys reading, being outside, swimming, and spending time with family and friends.
