We are the Artists Hoyt, a married artist team consisting of Summer and Evan Hoyt. Taking inspiration from natural and spiritual themes, our body of work interprets subjects such as mated animal pairs or flocks of birds, uniting them with themes such as passion, loss, and triumph. Summer is a painter and illustrator, and Evan interprets her designs with hand-cut stencils into expressionistic paintings using layers of acrylic, spray paint, and gouache.
Hailing from Marshalltown, IA, Summer Hoyt is painter and illustrator now residing Norwalk, IA. Her art comes from the process of exploring the vulnerability of human relationships and the desire to express the internal worth and beauty seen in others. She has been juried into exhibits at the Polk County Heritage Gallery, Octagon Center for the Arts, the Iowa State Fair, and Mainframe Studios.
A Des Moines native and Norwalk resident, Evan Hoyt has been a driving force in the arts community for over a decade, with a diverse background in event management, fundraising, volunteer coordination, and personal development coaching. In early 2022, Evan was elected as treasurer for the North River Arts Council, and to the role of president in 2025. As of 2024 he is the Public Engagement & Event Manager for the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, managing the Garden’s public facing event programs as well as their art gallery.
We have created many commissions including portraits, murals, and custom designs and can be reached at via social media or our website. We can also be found at many arts events around central Iowa and beyond.
