My name is Jan Dee Gibson, and I grew up in Iowa. At the encouragement of a friend, I started this journey by taking art lessons and workshops long after my last art class in middle school while working as a full-time lawyer. During the course of those lessons, I heard the best advice of my life — “Paint what I see, not what I think I see.” That honest re-evaluation has taken me to places like the soul of a dog through its eyes and a peek into God’s palette by really seeing the colors of a sunrise or sunset. As a result, I enjoy exploring all mediums and those subjects I want to share. In addition to exploring many mediums and subjects, I especially enjoy painting commissioned pet portraits.
