I studied Art and received a B.A.from Cornell College in Mt.Vernon, Iowa,
I throw and hand build both functional and decorative pieces from stoneware clay. To make mugs, vases, trays and lidded jars or boxes I make slabs imprinted with images from purchased laser engraved wooden rollers or rollers with my own designs. I also use a variety of textures from “found” items or purchased clay stamps. For my thrown work, I rely of glaze combinations and application techniques to make the pieces unique.
I look to both my past personal and career life, for inspiration for my work. I focus on Iowa’s agricultural heritage, pieces featuring corn, farm buildings, livestock, Gothic windows, barns, quilt squares, and even tractor tire tracks. All of my work is handmade, no two are exactly alike!
