In life, our past remains alive in our present. Similarly, in art, a good mixed media piece balances the quiet and mostly invisible “history” of early underlayers and their textural elements against the more obvious top surface creative moves. For me, the interplay between this visual depth and a viewer’s curiosity is the magic of mixed media.
