Prairie Wind Arts is owned and operated by artist Scott Burke. Scott’s art studio is located in Waukee, Iowa. His artwork reflects the inspiration he finds in the natural world. His work ranges in scope from realistic to abstract representations in wood and stone carving, oil and acrylic painting, watercolor, pastel, graphite, charcoal and mixed media, and stained glass. Subject matter includes animals, landscapes and portraits.
Scott also makes porky roaches from porcupine hair and dyed deer tail hair. His porky roaches are often commissioned by traditional Native American pow wow dancers to be used as part of their regalia.
Scott also teaches wood carving and nature journaling skills to individuals or small groups.
Scott also uses particularly figurative pieces of wood, found during the gathering of material for wood carving, to make hand-turned wooden pens and pencils. Visit Scott’s website for examples of Scott’s work.
